I made this last night for a little dinner party. It was a big hit! The dressing was delicious and I added sliced cherry tomatoes to the salad. Oh, but I made one little mistake. I used spring greens that I think were too fragile and didn’t not hold up well with that type of dressing. I think Romain would’ve been better Thank you so much!

You've certainly figured it all out though! This was really about the dressing, and cherry tomatoes sound great - nice freshness to cut through. But yes, it's a heavier dressing and it needs robust veg - glad it was a hit though! NEVER BUY RANCH AGAIN!

So...where would one find the Japanese Kewpie??!!

Frankie Celenza's avatar

H-Mart, if you have access to that. Although, the only difference between then American on and the Japanese one - is the American one doesn't have MSG. The MSG makes it so good 🤷

No H-mart anywhere near me, but could a smaller Asian market carry this?? Or worse comes to worse add a little Accent (aka MSG) to the US Kewpie?

I think making your own version sounds great!

I also used the leftover dressing in some appetizers. I served bite sized crostini topped with a thin slice of rare tri-tip and a dollop of the basil cream dressing on top. Chopped a little fresh parsley on top too. Super Duper. 😊
